Outcomes:
Even though the Families for Literacy program includes the whole family and is designed for pre-schoolers and their parents, the outcomes we track are changes in the behavior of the adults, not changes in the children. All of the adults reporting below are participants in adult literacy services, however not all of them are necessarily participants in the Families for Literacy program. This data is included to give a picture of the family-related goals attained by California Library Literacy Services participants.
- For those who said that sharing a book with their children or family members was a personal goal, 69% successfully did so.
- 58% of those who wanted to participate in school activities and events were able to do so and 54% were able to communicate with their child’s school/teachers.
- 48% of those who wanted to be able to help their children with homework were able to do so.
- 74% of those who wanted to begin using the library regularly were able to do so; 84% of those who wanted to get a new library card received one; and 76% of those who wanted to attend a library event did so.
- 69% of those who said they wanted to take their children to a library storytime did just that.
Data from the CALIFORNIA LIBRARY LITERACY SERVICES ROLES & GOALS REPORT, representing the 6 month period from January 1, 2007 – June 30, 2007.
