Michael Barrett is an African-American male in his early forties who was born in Chicago, and moved to California at the age of 10. He was terrified to go to school due to violence and gangs, and therefore, only completed the 6th or 7th grade. He attends a basic literacy intermediate level small group in Vallejo. He enjoys working on cars and doing carpentry. Michael is highly motivated. The tutor is Yolanda DeVore. The staff person is Joanne Wright.
Rosie (& Pat): high bandwidth | 56k (16 minutes)
Rosy Padilla is an FFL, intermediate literacy level, second language learner. She has lived in the U.S. for eight years. She has a high school diploma from Mexico. She has three children ages: 2, 3 and 7 years old. Rosy works full time. She regularly meets her tutor, Pat Pepin, twice a week in the evening at the Kennedy Library. The staff person is Lorene Hamasaki.
Tuyen (& Van): high bandwidth | 56k (10 minutes)
Tuyen Nguyen is an intermediate level literacy student and a second language learner. He has lived in the U.S. for 14 years. Tuyen did not attend much school in Vietnam. He has been in the Library's Adult Literacy Program for 4 years. During this time, Tuyen has had a couple of tutors and in between, he attended small group tutoring. Currently, he is meeting with Van O'bryan II, his tutor, twice a week on a regular basis at the Fairfield Civic Center Library. The staff person is Jennifer Tetzlaff.
